HEAT WAVE: Temperatures in the 90s expected into next week across DC region
WASHINGTON - Say hello to the heat! It's just the beginning of the latest heat wave to grip the D.C. region as temperatures climb into the 90s and are expected to stay there well into next week.
The intense heat and humidity will begin in the afternoon Thursday as spotty showers move through during the morning hours.
Hazy, hot and humid conditions will be in full swing as the weekend approaches. FOX 5's Mike Thomas says temperatures are likely to hit 90 degrees on Thursday and will be around 92 on Friday. The temperatures begin rising into Saturday and Sunday when they will eventually reach around 97 degrees. The heat index will make the weekend temperatures feel like 100 degrees.
Sunny skies in Ocean City, Maryland and highs between 85 and 90 degrees will make for a nearly perfect beach weekend.
The National Weather Service recommends drinking plenty of fluids and staying out of the sun when possible during periods of extended high temperature. If you are working outside, take frequent breaks and rest in shaded or air conditioned locations.
