WASHINGTON - Tweets sent from an account claiming to belong to the wife of Washington Redskins general manager Scot McCloughan allege that ESPN reporter Dianna Russini has been getting inside information on the team as the result of a relationship with her husband. On Wednesday night, Jessica McCloughan apologized for her remarks, saying she has the "utmost respect for both the reporter and ESPN."
The tweets were sent from the Twitter account @rutherchevy. That account has been deleted, but BlackSportsOnline posted screenshots of the tweets. BlackSportsOnline reports the first tweet was in reply to a tweet Russini sent to another user on August 13 about the upcoming season. According to BlackSportsOnline, @Rutherchevy tweeted, "I'm pretty sure this info is coming from my husband to his new side chick (dianna) its confirmed."
Then, on August 30, BlackSportsOnline reports Jessica McCloughan again tweeted in response to a tweet by Russini, alleging Russini performed oral sex to get information. BlackSportsOnline posted screenshots of more tweets on their website (click here for their full story).
On August 30, Russini broke the story on Twitter that the Redskins would start Kirk Cousins at quarterback in week one of the regular season, citing a source.
Earlier Wednedsay, BlackSportsOnline reported Redskins Senior Vice President of Communications Tony Wyllie said the account is fake, and the team contacted NFL security to take it down. Several hours later, the team released the following statement on Jessica McCloughan's behalf:
"I deeply apologize for the disparaging remarks about an ESPN reporter on my personal Twitter account. The comment was unfounded and inappropriate, and I have the utmost respect for both the reporter and ESPN. I regret that my actions have brought undeserved negative attention to the Redskins organization and its leadership. My comments in no way reflect the opinions or attitudes of the organization and I regret that my behavior has in any way negatively impacted the team and its loyal fan base."
