The Washington Capitals will be wearing a special patch during Wednesday night's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins and it's all part of the NHL'S 'Hockey Fights Cancer' campaign.

Each year, the initiative raises awareness to help fight cancer and fans have donated more than $15 million to support the cause.

Capitals Head Coach Barry Trotz is urging fans to come out in force and says his team has been touched personally after the death of the wife of an assistant coach.

"Hopefully, in a small way we can help raise some funds, raise some awareness, and help get rid of this absolutely horrible disease," he said.
