Worker found dead after silo collapse at quarry

Authorities have identified an 18-year-old quarry worker who was killed after a silo collapsed at a Loudoun County quarry.

The Mine Safety and Health Administration said Tuesday that the victim was Daniel Potter of Front Royal.

Loudoun County Fire and Rescue officials said Potter was found about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday underneath large amounts of metal equipment and stone dust. A silo had collapsed almost exactly 24 hours earlier on Monday, spilling tons of debris in the area where Potter had been working.

Dozens of rescuers, including members of Fairfax County's Urban Search and Rescue team, spent Monday and early Tuesday at the Luck Stone Leesburg Quarry in Ashburn searching for Potter.
