Woman without life jacket survives falling overboard into Sassafras River

Maryland Natural Resources Police say a boater who fell overboard without a life jacket Sunday evening was found alive on a nearby island the following morning.

The incident happened around 8 p.m. Sunday in the water near the mouth of the Sassafras River.

Crews searched for the woman, identified as 32-year-old Lauren Conner of Aberdeen, until around 2:30 a.m.

The resumed their search at 7 a.m. Monday morning and found Conner alive on Spesutie Island, a part of the Aberdeen Proving Grounds.

Conner was unharmed and was not wearing a life jacket when she fell overboard.
