Woman escapes as car is swallowed up by flood waters in Fairfax County

A Virginia woman narrowly escaped being seriously injured after her car was swept away in rushing waters in Fairfax County.

Her family tells FOX 5 she ended up hanging onto trees to escape her sinking car.

The woman's husband tells FOX 5 she was rescued from her car Saturday night. He says his wife was directed onto Browns Mill Road and Rosewood Hill Drive in Great Falls because of another closure when the car was swept into the water.

Fairfax County police say the car is due to be towed from the water.

Officials strongly advise those out on roads to turn around if they see the road is flooded.
