Woman dies after being struck by tree limb in Arlington, police say

ARLINGTON, Va. (FOX 5 DC) -- A woman was killed after she was struck by a tree limb while walking on a trail in Arlington Thursday afternoon, according to police.

The woman, who has not yet been identified, was walking in Lucky Run Park in the 2600 block of S. Walter Reed Drive at around 1:45 p.m. when a tree limb fell from the 80-foot oak and struck her, Arlington County officials say.

Police say she was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

County officials offered their condolences to the woman's family:

"Arlington County is heartbroken that a community member was struck by a falling tree limb in a park this afternoon. Our condolences and thoughts are with the family."

The county is investigating the incident at this time.
