Woman bitten by Black Widow to be monitored for months

COLCHESTER, Vt. (AP) -- A 21-year-old Vermont woman is in the hospital after she was bitten by a black widow spider.

WCAX-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1GA30K0) the Colchester resident spent the night at UVM Medical center and will be monitored for months.

The woman's mother says she reached into a bag of grapes when then the spider crawled up her arm and bit her. She says they then caught the spider and brought it and her daughter to the hospital.

Representatives from Shaw's supermarket in Colchester, which sold her the grapes, say they are inspecting the produce in their stores and are contacting their suppliers to make sure their products are healthy and safe.
