Water main breaks plague DC region during extreme cold

Utility and road crews in the D.C. region have been working overtime trying to repair a steady stream of water main breaks that have plagued the region during this latest bout with extreme temperatures.

The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission told FOX 5's Melanie Alnwick on Monday that they were working approximately 80 active water main breaks.

The breaks have led to flooded basements, roadways, and caused numerous traffic detours. A WSSC spokesman told FOX 5 that their offices will help customers with questions regarding claims.
