Washington Monument to reopen September 19, National Park Service announces

The Washington Monument will reopen to the public in September, the National Park Service announced on Friday.

The National Park Service said the Washington Monument will reopen to the public on Sept. 19 at 9 a.m.

The monument has been closed for 37 months to modernize the elevator control system and to construct a new security screening facility.

Same-day tickets for opening day and until October 18 will be given on a first-come, first-served basis.

Beginning Oct. 10, visitors can get tickets for October 19 and beyond by visiting here.
