Underground electrical fire in Dupont Circle causes power outages, traffic delays

An underground electrical fire in Dupont Circle caused power outages and traffic delays Wednesday morning.

The incident was reported around 5 a.m. in the 1400 block of 17th Street where officials say smoke was seen coming from as many as two manholes.

No injuries were reported but over four hundred customers in the area were without power.

Twitter user Emily Clyne posted video online showing emergency vehicles responding to the scene. She said two explosions were heard followed by sirens.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
