Trooper recovering after vehicle struck by out-of-control SUV

PRINCE WILLIAM CO., Va. - A Virginia State Police trooper is recovering after his vehicle was struck by an out-of-control SUV.

The crash happened around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday along the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 in in Prince William County.

Trooper I.J. Dallam Sr. was using his radar gun while parked off the left side of Interstate 95. Police say a 2000 Ford Explorer was speeding when the driver lost control, slide off of the road, and stuck the patrol car.

Dallam was transported to Sentara Prince William Hospital and was treated and released.

The driver of the SUV, 23-year-old Corey A. Saenz, 23, suffered minor injuries and refused medical treatment. Saenz has been charged with reckless driving.

The accident remains under investigation.
