Teenage girl dies after being pulled from water near Key Bridge

An investigation is underway after a teenage girl was pulled from the water near the Francis Scott Key Bridge on Saturday evening and later pronounced dead.

What we know:

At approximately 7:47 p.m. Saturday, the Metropolitan Police Department's Harbor Unit responded to reports of a person in the water. Authorities arrived at the scene near the 3300 block of Water Street NW, along the Georgetown waterfront.

Emergency responders located a teenage female in the water who was unconscious and not breathing.

She was immediately transported to a local hospital for emergency medical treatment. She was ultimately pronounced dead.

What's next:

Police say a death investigation is currently underway. 

The teen's identity has not yet been released, and she will be transferred to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. An autopsy is pending to determine the official cause and manner of her death.
