Tax due date pushed back because of Emancipation Day, Patriots' Day

WASHINGTON - This year, tax payers will have a few extra days to get their taxes filed.

Due to the Emancipation Day holiday falling on April 15 - tax return due dates are delayed until the next business day. In this case, 2015 returns would be due on Monday, April 18.

Taxpayers in Maine and Massachusetts observe Patriots' Day on April 18, so they will have until Tuesday, April 19, to file.

The IRS says returns are considered filed timely if the envelope is properly addressed and postmarked by the due date.
