Suspicious package cleared in NW DC

Authorities say a suspicious backpack found inside a Northwest D.C. FedEx store has been cleared and no toxic material was found.

D.C. police say they received a call about the suspicious package at 18th and M Streets at around 3:50 p.m. Monday.

D.C. Fire and EMS spokesperson Tim Wilson said employees felt ill after smelling a suspicious odor and police and Hazmat crews were at the scene to investigate.

The package caused road closures on the southbound lanes of the 1100 and 1200 blocks of 19th Street. Pedestrian traffic was also blocked off in the 1800 block of M Street.
