Suspect's barbecue lighter was mistaken for gun in Prince George's Co school incident, police say

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (FOX 5 DC) - Prince George's County police responded to a report of a suspicious person allegedly making threats at Patuxent Elementary School in Upper Marlboro on Friday - only to learn that the man's barbecue lighter had been mistaken for a gun.

An initial report of an active shooter proved to be unfounded, according to police.

A person who matches the suspect's description is now in custody.

Friday evening, police identified the man as Ricardo Joseph Campbell. They have not indicated what he may be charged with.

After he made threatening statements within the school, the suspect removed some clothing as he left the scene.

The school was on lockdown during the midafternoon while police sorted out the situation.
