Suspect taken into custody after barricade situation in NW DC

Police say a suspect who barricade himself for over nine hours in a Northwest D.C. home has been taken into custody Wednesday evening.

Officers arrived at a home in the 1400 block of Oglethorpe Street at around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday to serve a warrant for 22-year-old Warren Stevenson. He was wanted on charges for an armed carjacking, assault and robbery back on Nov. 12 on Franklin Street in Northeast D.C.

The suspect ended up barricading himself inside the home and police blocked off numerous roads in the area as negotiations continued throughout the day.

Police worked with school officials at nearby Brightwood Elementary School to facilitate a safe dismissal for their students.

D.C. police tweeted just after 6 p.m. that the barricade situation concluded after suspect was safely taken into custody.
