Woman charged in Khyree Jackson's fatal wreck granted home detention awaiting trial

A Prince George’s County woman charged in connection to a deadly triple wreck last summer has been granted home detention.

Cori Clingman, 24, has been charged with 13 counts including manslaughter and driving under the influence for her role in the July 2024 crash. The wreck killed 23-year-old Isaiah Hazel, 24-year-old Anthony Lytton, Jr. and 24-year-old Khyree Jackson. All three victims were former football players at Wise High School, with Jackson drafted to the Minnesota Vikings months before crash.

Clingman appeared in court Friday via web cam for her initial appearance. During it, her attorney Thomas Christopher Mooney argued his client was not a flight risk and home detention was appropriate.

According to Mooney, the order is considered a level four pre-trial release.

"One is through the jail, one is through a private company…but in either event, she would have an ankle bracelet on," he explained. "Her movements would be restricted. She’d be able to go to work, she would be able to attend any medical appointments, and any legal appointments."

The three victims Hazel, Lytton, and Jackson were killed on July 6, 2024. Maryland State Police troopers responded to the scene of the crash on northbound Route 4/Pennsylvania Avenue near Presidential Parkway around 3:15 a.m.

Mooney said in court Friday, his client and the three young men were all socializing that night prior to the crash. He described the entire incident as a tragic accident.

"It is a tragedy in that respect. They were all out that night. They have an incredible history together," he said. "She’s known most of them since 7th grade and the fact when it was time to celebrate their lives, given the fact that it is the allegation that she is the one who caused their demise, she was unable to properly grieve, properly celebrate their lives and attend the funerals of the people that she cared dearly about."

The hearing Friday comes a day after Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy announced Clingman had been indicted. A statement from her office was released Friday afternoon:

"After being arrested yesterday, Cori Clingman appeared in court for an arraignment today. During the hearing our Assistant State’s Attorney argued vigorously that she should be held in jail based on the nature of the crime, the impact on the community and other factors.  However, a judge granted her the option of home detention.

Though we hoped for a different outcome, we respect the judge’s decision and look forward to preparing for trial and ultimately moving forward to secure justice for the three young men killed in the tragic car crash."

According to court records, Clingman is due back in court in May with trial currently scheduled for June.
