Police have arrested a suspect involved in a fatal hit-and-run of a pedestrian in a residential neighborhood in Clarksburg Friday afternoon.

Today, detectives say that they have charged Ryan Anthony Salandy, with first degree murder. Investigators say that they are also identifying the victim as William Dean McDaniel. Detectives are now investigating this as a homicide.

Authorities say a man was struck by a vehicle at around 12:21 p.m. at Sweetspire Drive nearby Little Seneca Parkway. Responding officers found the victim dead on the roadway and that the striking vehicle had drove away from the scene.

Montgomery County police's Collision Reconstruction Unit and Major Crimes detectives also responded to the area.

Neighbors say there was an argument between the victim and driver and it may have began over the driver's speed. But police are still working to piece together what exactly happened.

"Detectives are investigating the possibility that the victim and driver may have known each other," said Montgomery County Police Cpl. Rebecca Innocenti.

Just under a half hour later, police say they received a call stating that the male driver and vehicle involved in the collision were at a home on Amber Ridge Circle in the Milestone area of Germantown. Officers responded to the home and took the alleged driver in for questioning.

Police spent hours examining a gray Saab car parked in the back of the home. A tent was set up over the car and there appeared to be some damage to the vehicle's front end and roof.

Police say detectives are also continuing to interview witnesses of the collision and are asking others who may have seen the crash to come forward and contact them.
