Spotsylvania Co. K-9 out of surgery, recovering after being shot
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - A Spotsylvania Co. K-9 is out of surgery and recovering after being shot in Fredericksburg, Va. Sunday night, according to officials. Doctors say that the surgery went well and the K-9 is resting.
The shooting happened around 9:10 p.m. after an officer pulled over a suspect's car on Lafayette Boulevard. The Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office says that Joseph Conway, 34, shot Dux, the K-9 dog, while attempting to flee from deputies.
The incident began after deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. The driver was taken into custody, but the passenger, Conway, exited the car, got into got into a shootout with the officer and fled the scene, according to officials.
Dux was sent to chase Conway, which is when he pulled out a gun and shot the dog. Dux was taken to a veterinary hospital where he is now out of surgery and resting comfortably.
Conway is still on the run and officials continue to search for him.
