Season of Wishes: Ben's dream tree house

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Ben Wilson, 8, excitedly explored every nook and cranny of his new tree house, but this is not just any ordinary tree house.

For Ben, it was a wish come true, thanks to Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic.

The past year and a half has been quite a ride for the Wilson family after Ben was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma, a rare and aggressive bone cancer.

"He had 17 rounds of chemotherapy, which some of the rounds were two days, some of the rounds were five days. Adding up, it was over 64 days of chemo," said mother Jennifer Wilson.

In addition to chemotherapy, Ben underwent radiation and surgery to remove the tumor.

"His courage and strength have always kind of given us the hope to get up each morning and smile and push on," said Shawn Wilson, Ben's father.

Make-A-Wish partnered with Saxon Collaborative Construction and Tobias Sullivan Architects to build the tree house, which has surpassed Ben's expectations.

"Well, I thought that if you go on a trip, you can only do it once and you only have pictures. If you have a tree house, you can stay in there forever," said Ben Wilson.

In addition to celebrating the new tree house, Ben's family is celebrating the fact that he has been free of cancer for eight months.

"Ben has gone through the whole thing with a smile on his face," said father Shawn Wilson.

There are currently more than 600 children in the D.C. area who are waiting on a wish.
