Robbery suspect fatally shot by DC police

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Police say officers responding to an attempted robbery at a liquor store shot and killed a suspect who fired at them.

The incident occurred Monday morning at a liquor store along Georgia Avenue northwest near the border with Maryland.

Police Chief Cathy Lanier says employees and officers interrupted the robbery and the suspects fled out the back. Lanier says that officers responded to gunfire from one of the suspects and that suspect was killed. She says a second suspect was taken into custody about four blocks away.

Lanier says no officers were hit and all suspects are accounted for.
