Rescuers search for worker following silo collapse at quarry

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) -- Rescuers are searching for a 19-year-old worker missing after a silo collapsed and spilled tons of debris at a Loudoun County quarry.

Loudoun County Fire Department spokeswoman Laura Rinehart says the 80-foot silo partially collapsed at the Luck Stone Leesburg Quarry in Ashburn Monday morning, spilling stone dust. She says the missing man was working near the silo.

Rinehart said dozens of rescuers responded to the scene, including members of Fairfax County's Urban Search and Rescue team.

After several hours of searching, rescuers suspended the effort for several hours Monday out of concern over the structural integrity of the damaged silo. Heavy equipment was brought in to aid the search Monday afternoon.

Luck Stone, based in Richmond, issued a statement Monday expressing concern for its missing worker.
