Republican Larry Hogan sworn in as Maryland's 62nd governor

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Republican Larry Hogan has been sworn in as Maryland's 62nd governor.

Hogan took the oath of office from Maryland Court of Appeals Chief Judge Mary Ellen Barbera in the state Senate on Wednesday, as required by the state constitution.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who campaigned several times for his Republican colleague in Maryland, watched from the Senate gallery. Former Gov. Robert Ehrlich and his wife Kendel also attended.

Lt. Gov. Boyd Rutherford was sworn in just before Hogan.

Hogan was set to speak outside the Maryland State House following the swearing-in.

An inaugural gala is scheduled at the Baltimore Convention Center Wednesday night.
