Report: Arlington DMV wait time is longest in Virginia

ARLINGTON, Va. - The wait time at the Arlington DMV office is longer than anywhere else in Virginia, according to a new report.

The state's Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission found the average wait at most of the Commonwealth's DMV locations is 24 minutes, but it's 47 minutes at the Arlington DMV.

"The report did show the Arlington branch is totally overrun and takes a lot longer than it should," said Virginia Del. Dave Albo.

Albo is part of the commission that wrote the report. Statewide, he says the DMV is doing a good job. However, language barriers, military transfers and first time licensees are slowing down service in Arlington.

"Does DMV need to do a better job sorting that out?" asked FOX 5's Tom Fitzgerald.

"Of course, DMV needs to do a better job. All government needs to do a better job," Del. Albo said.

The report also found 866,000 customers wait in Virginia DMV offices even though they could've gotten the exact same service online and saved a $5 fee.

Virginia DMV says they're looking at more staffing, reducing return visits and eventually building a new facility in Arlington.
