Public school doing away with traditional homework assignments

A public school in New York City is doing away with traditional homework assignments.

Instead the elementary school tells kids to play instead.

Some parents are outraged by the move, saying they may even pull their kids out of the school.

Teachers at P.S. 116 are encouraging their students to read books and spend time with their families.

The school system says research has shown that students have lost an interest in learning because of lack of time for other activities.

A spokesperson from the Department of Education says, ‘New York City does not have an overarching homework policy, so principals and teachers can use their discretion in assigning homework.'
