Prince William County Police asking for help to crack 20-year-old cold case

Prince William County Police found a Dutch tourist dead 20 years ago this weekend and investigators still don't know who killed the man and why.

Police say 62-year-old Johannes De Hart's body was lying face down in a creek near Manassas and was partially clothed when it was found September 28, 1999. Eventually police were able to identify De Hart because of the brand of his underwear and a sketch they generated that ran on TV in the Netherlands.

It's unclear how De Hart got to Virginia, but his son told authorities he had been through a divorce and flew to Atlanta in order to visit the U.S. Newspaper reports from the time say he spent some time in Georgia and South Carolina.

An autopsy revealed that De Hart died from a blow to the head.

Police are asking anyone with information to come forward and contact their cold case unit at 703-792-7000.
