Prince George's County police shoot armed suspect, officials say
LANDOVER, Md. - Officers with the Prince George's County Police Department shot an armed suspect during a struggle late Thursday evening, according to officials.
Prince George's County Police Chief Henry Stawinski said officers from his special operations and narcotics division were conducting a joint operation in the 7800 block of Sheriff Road near FedEx Field in Landover at about 9:15 p.m. when the shooting occurred.
According to Stawinski, the department received a tip that a suspect was known to deal drugs and carry a firearm in the community.
Officers from the special units canvassed the area and located the suspect, according to officials. When officers went to arrest the suspect, authorities said there was a struggle and an officer saw the suspect reaching for a gun. An officer shot the suspect multiple times, according to police.
The suspect was rushed to the hospital where he was last listed in stable condition heading into surgery, authorities stated. No officers were injured during the incident.
