Possible meteor sighting in sky over New Zealand

Social media sites exploded with reaction to a possible meteor sighting over the skies of New Zealand.

The sighting took place Wednesday night and was seen from Whangarei to the upper South Island.

The New Zealand Herald reports that many experienced a blinding flash, an intense explosion and even sonic booms.
