Possible metal contamination prompts chicken, pork sausage recall

Nearly 12,000 pounds of poultry and meat sausage products are being recalled over fears that they might be contaminated with metal.

R.L. Zeigler is recalling two lines of products that were produced on Nov. 29, 2018:

-- 24-oz. plastic packages containing approximately 9 links of "ZEIGLER A TRADITION OF GREAT TASTE RED HOTS" with a "Use By Jan 24 19" date.
-- 24-oz. plastic packages containing approximately 9 links of "EXTRA HOT ZEIGLER A TRADITION OF GREAT TASTE RED HOTS" with a "Use By Jan 24 19" date.

The products have the number "EST. P-9156S" inside the USDA mark of inspection.

The company says the problem was discovered when customers made complaints on Dec. 13 and Dec. 27.

There have been no confirmed reports of people becoming sick after eating these products.

The Food Safety and Inspection Service is concerned that people might have these products in their refrigerators or freezers.

They say you should throw impacted products away, or return them to the store.
