#PopeInDC: 5 Things DC needs Pope Francis to bless

Image 1 of 5

Pope Francis will cover a lot of ground during his visit to the United States, and there are plenty of people who hope they'll be lucky enough to receive his blessing. Many of those people will turn out in D.C. to get a glimpse--or maybe more--from His Holiness.

While he's in the District, Pope Francis will meet with President Obama at the White House. He'll also ride in a parade, hold a canonization at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, address Congress, and meet with bishops and certainly talk about many, many important issues.

We know that doesn't leave much downtime--but just in case… here's our list of 5 things we'd love the pope to bless while he's in D.C. See if you agree:

1. Metro.
Someone beat us to the punch on this one. Could the pope's blessing really fix Metro? Well… a petition was started on Change.org Tuesday asking for Pope Francis to bless D.C.'s transit system, amid a number of recent (and some not-so-recent) issues. The person who started the petition was hoping for 2,500 signatures, and by Tuesday night, it had over 1,600.

As though we needed to say more: Less than three hours after the pope's arrival in D.C., service was suspended on the Green and Yellow lines because of a power outage. Pope Francis: Metro needs you. Please hurry.

2. The Redskins.
It's no secret: Washington's football team is in crisis. But just when you think no one can save them, the pope lands in D.C. Wonder if he's heard of #HTTR? We're ready for a little divine intervention.

3. DC roads.
There's a lot we could say here, but let's be real: Pope Francis's ride to the Vatican Embassy in D.C. on Tuesday was a Fiat--so if anyone knows about D.C.'s pothole problems… it's him. Potholes + our everyday traffic? We know it's a lot to ask, but winter is coming, and it's all downhill (pun intended) from here.

4. The baby panda.
THE BABY PANDA! We know the pope will love that little boy as much as the rest of us do. How could he NOT bless that face?

PS. We think Francis is a pretty good name for a panda cub. We're talking to you, National Zoo! 

5. Congress
Can't we all just get along? We can if the pope says so…

Of course, we're just having a little fun-- though we think #5 is pretty legitimate.
