Police: Woman shot, killed in Greenbelt

A woman was killed in Greenbelt Friday evening.

Greenbelt Police say the woman, who has been identified as Bettie Jenifer, 44, of Bowie, was shot in the head in the parking lot of an office complex in the 6300 block of Ivy Lane at around 5:10 p.m.

Police say a preliminary investigation revealed that Jenifer had exited a nearby office building and was walking towards her car when she was approached by a suspect who was armed with a handgun.

Jenifer ran across the parking lot, with the suspect following behind her and firing multiple shots, police say. At least one of the shots struck her. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect, according to police, was seen fleeing the scene in a blue vehicle following the shooting. He is described as a black male with a thin build. Police say he was last seen wearing a brown shirt and khaki pants. His hair may be styled in cornrows.
