Police: Shooting near Md. mall appears 'out of nowhere'

HANOVER, Md. (AP) -- Anne Arundel County police say they're investigating a shooting near the Arundel Mills mall in Hanover.

Lt. T.J. Smith says police got a call just before 8 a.m. Tuesday from the relative of a man who had been shot at while inside his car on Arundel Mills Boulevard.

Smith says the man told police that he had just filled up his gas tank and was about to make a turn when another car pulled up and shots were fired. Smith says the man had a minor wound that was either a bullet graze or caused by shattered glass.

Smith says the motive is unknown but that it appears the shooting was "out of nowhere." He says there's no indication the victim knew the shooter.

No arrests have been made.
