Police searching for two suspects after reported armed robbery, carjacking in Takoma Park

A search is underway for two suspects who police say robbed a jewelry store then fled the scene in a stolen vehicle Saturday evening.

According to police, officers responded to a panic alarm at Silver Spring Jewelry in the 1100 block of University Blvd. E at around 6:53 p.m.

While officers were there, police say another call was dispatched for an armed carjacking that happened in the same area.

Police say a Hispanic-looking man with a dark complexion walked into the jewelry store and "feigned interest in buying jewelry."

Moments later, a second Hispanic-looking man with a dark complexion entered the jewelry store armed with a handgun. That's when the first man "pulled a large rifle from under his sweatshirt."

Police say the two men then pointed their weapons at the jewelry store employees and demanded money and jewelry. They were able to get their hands on a large amount of money and jewelry before they fled the scene.

After the armed men ran into the street following the robbery, police say they approached two men who were exiting a gray Toyota Camry with DC tags: EN1594 and demanded their keys at gunpoint. The men complied.

The first suspect was described as wearing a gray and black hoodie, dark green pants, and black and white Chuck Taylor-style shoes. Meanwhile, police described the second suspect as wearing a black hoodie, dark blue pants and black shoes with white soles.
