Police searching for 2 men accused of robbing woman in Gaithersburg parking lot

Gaithersburg police are asking for help identifying two men they say distracted a woman and stole from her and a witness says she captured the two suspects on video.

A witness spoke to FOX 5 saying she saw the alleged scheme and secretly shot what happened by using her driver-side mirror.

Cell phone video showed a man dressed in a black fedora-style hat, dark sunglasses, tan-colored trench coat and black pants, talking to the car owner, who we don’t identify in order to protect her privacy.

Moments later, police say the suspect talks to the woman and distracts her, showing her something under her rear bumper.

While she looks, you can see the second suspect on video, dressed in a black coat and cap. Police tell FOX 5 he is stealing out of the woman’s purse in the car.

"It was scary because at first, I just thought they were just trying to help her with something and then I realized what was happening it just kind of surprising because I didn't expect that," the witness told FOX 5's Shomari Stone.

The alleged scheme happened in the 300 block of Kentlands Boulevard in the parking lot near Whole Foods and detectives tell FOX 5 the two men walked away after the theft and investigators believe the two men worked together.

"I've heard stories about stuff like that happening but I've never, never, expected that to be happening," she said. "It’s scary, it makes me feel like it's not as safe as I thought it was."

Police are continuing to investigate the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Gaithersburg Police Department.
