Police say juvenile mother fabricated story about newborn in plastic bag after delivering baby

Police say a juvenile mother gave birth to a baby and fabricated a story about the newborn being found alone, outside, and wrapped in a plastic bag.

Officers initially responded to a home in Hagerstown Wednesday morning after a caller told them a baby girl was abandoned on the porch of a home on Frederick Street.

Officers arrived and quickly transported the baby to Children's National Medical Center in D.C.

During their investigation, officers discovered that the baby was actually delivered by a juvenile inside of the home. The girl then called police and fabricated a story about finding the newborn on the porch.

At this time, the baby remains hospitalized and is in stable condition.

Investigators say no charges are expected to be filed, however, the case has been sent to the Department of Social Services for the safety of the baby and the juvenile involved.
