Police looking for man suspected of attempted kidnapping in Montgomery County

Montgomery County police say they are asking for help from the public in identifying a suspect in an attempted kidnapping in Germantown.

Investigators say just before 8 p.m. Friday, a 13-year-old girl left her home and walked to the 7-Eleven at 12681 Clopper Road, near Mateny and Clopper Roads. Police say the girl made her purchase and began walking home, heading north on Mateny Road when she was approached by a man in a white smaller SUV.

According to police, the man asked the girl if she needed a ride and when she declined his offer, the man parked and got out of his car. They say the suspect approached the girl and grabbed her arm, and pulling on it. The girl was able to free herself, ran home and told her parents, who then called police.

They say there was also a man in the area who was walking his dog and saw the incident and told the suspect to stop.

Investigators say they're looking for a Hispanic man, possibly in his 30's, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a thin build, possibly weighing about 160 pounds.

Detectives say the suspect had a thick Hispanic accent and was last seen wearing a black jacket and blue jeans. He was reportedly clean-shaven and smelled "clean" as if he had recently bathed.

Anyone with information that could aid detectives in their investigation is urged to call police at (301) 279-8000.
