Police ID woman ambushed by gunman in Laurel apartment parking lot

Police have identified a Laurel woman they say was shot and killed after being ambushed by a gunman while she sat inside her vehicle in the parking lot of her apartment complex.

Officers say 42-year-old Tjai "TJ" Farmer was in her vehicle around 4:50 a.m. Monday in the parking lot of an apartment complex on 14120 West Side Boulevard when investigators say a lone gunman approached and shot her.

Farmer suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene.

Jordan Glenn is a resident at the Duvall Westside apartment complex and lives in the building next to Farmer’s.

"I knew something had to have happened. I wasn’t sure what had taken place, but I knew it was something. Had to be something gruesome," Glenn said, referring to the police activity on Monday morning. "To be honest, it’s kind of terrifying because I’ve been living here for a couple of years now. We’ve never had incidents like this. This was very isolated, so it’s like…was somebody watching residents? Has somebody been planning this? Did they know the person who got attacked personally? We still don’t know those details, so I think that has us all on edge, still."

Shelby Vincke, another resident, said she emailed the apartment complex after the shooting to see if there will be any added security measures.

"My boyfriend, he lives here with me. He wakes up at 5 a.m. and he leaves for work at like 5:30 p.m., so my concern is could this happen to anyone?" Vincke said. "Pretty much every article is saying the same thing, but I’m more concerned about what’s next? What’s the action that you’re going to take with this? I believe it happened right next to the playground. Lots of children live here. I’m not only concerned about me and my family’s safety, but everyone who lives here."

FOX 5 reached out to the apartment complex for comment on Wednesday. So far, we have not heard back yet.

Investigators have no suspects or motives at this time.
