Police arrest son of woman found dead outside of Rockville church

Investigators say they have arrested the son of a woman whose body was found outside of a Catholic church in Rockville Friday evening.

Montgomery County police say they have arrested 21-year-old Kevin Justin McGuigan, of the 10300 block of Grosvenor Place in Rockville for the first degree murder of his mother, 49-year-old Jaclyn McGuigan, of Marwood Court in Rockville.

Officials say Jaclyn McGuigan had last been seen leaving her Marwood Court residence in her Honda sedan with her son Kevin McGuigan at approximately 5:30 p.m. on December 28.

Police began investigating after they responded to a reported assault outside of Saint Raphael Catholic Church and School on Dunster Road on Friday night.

When police arrived, they found Jaclyn McGuigan with trauma to the upper body outside of an entrance to the church. She died at the scene, officials say.

The school Tweeted that the victim had been stabbed to death.

Officials say Kevin McGuigan was arrested Montgomery County police officers at a gas station in Rockville at around 7 a.m. Saturday on an arrest warrant charging him with first-degree murder. He was transported to the Central Processing Unit.

The medical examiner's office in Baltimore will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death for the victim.
