Police arrest man for sexual assaults

Glen Burnie, MD - Anne Arundel County Police say they have arrested a suspect, Steven Proctor, in connection with at least two sexual assaults. The first assault took place on July 12, 2014 at approximately 1:45 a.m., police say that they were dispatched to a First Degree Rape in the 600 block of Crain Highway. This area is approximately two miles from the second sexual assault which occurred on the morning of September 11, 2015.

The adult female said she was approached by a black male riding a bicycle while in the 600 block of Crain Highway. The suspect engaged the adult female in conversation at which time he then brandished an edged weapon he then sexually assaulted the female. Once the assault was over the black male left the area on his bicycle driving in the direction of Crain Highway.

The second assault took place on Friday, September 11, 2015 at approximately 12:22 a.m., the Anne Arundel County Police Department responded to the 300 block of Hospital Drive, Glen Burnie, Maryland for a First Degree Sexual Assault. The adult female told police that the sexual assault occurred behind the shopping center located in the 300 block of Hospital Drive, Glen Burnie, Maryland.

The victim reported she was walking in the area when a black male approached her. The suspect had a conversation with the female at which time he brandished a weapon. The suspect then sexually assaulted the female. Once the assault was over the suspect left the area on a bicycle driving in the direction of Crain Highway.

Police say that Detectives reviewed prior cases to see if any others may be linked to the suspect. They were able to identify a possible person of interest through the various investigative means.

Police officials say that on the afternoon of Thursday, September 17, 2015, detectives located the person of interest in the 7500 block of Ritchie Highway, Glen Burnie, Anne Arundel County, Maryland. At that point, Detectives executed numerous search warrants at that time and recovered possible items of evidentiary value linking him to the July 2014 and September 2015 sex offenses.

Detective Caprice Saunders obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect, identified as Steven Joseph Proctor, a 52 year old black male from the 7500 block of Ritchie Highway, Glen Burnie Maryland.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department is seeking the public's assistance in identifying any other possible victims.
