Phife Dawg, co-founder of hip-hop group 'A Tribe Called Quest,' dead at 45

A co-founding member of the popular hip-hop trio, 'A Tribe Called Quest', has died. Malik Isaac Taylor, better known by his stage name, Phife Dawg, died Wednesday. He was 45.

The group was formed in the mid-80s and scored several hits with songs like "Scenario" and "Check the Rhime" before parting ways in the late-90s.

The group did reunite in 2006 for a U.S. tour.

The cause of death has not officially been announced but it was known that Taylor had been battling with type 1 diabetes and underwent a kidney transplant in 2008.
