Person of interest questioned in Greenbelt sexual assault case

Greenbelt police said they are interviewing a person of interest in connection to a sexual assault of a woman as she was walking home from a shopping mall Monday night.

The person of interest has not been charged in this case, but was taken into custody without incident by police. No further details were revealed by police.

The woman was sexually assaulted in a wooded area in the 5900 block of Cherrywood Terrace after she encountered the suspect earlier in the night while she was shopping at Beltway Plaza Mall, according to police.

The victim left the mall at around 9:45 p.m. and walked across Brreezewood Drive towards an apartment complex where she encountered a man who pulled out a knife, threatened her and pulled her into the wooded area where the sexual assault occurred.

The suspect is described as a male with a light complexion, 5' tall with a muscular build. He was wearing a black t-shirt with a pink emblem on the front, dark pants and grey sneakers with green trim.
