Person found inside luggage compartment suffers life-threatening injuries in bus fire

A person who was found inside a luggage compartment of a Greyhound bus that caught on fire has been hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

Virginia State Police responded to the fire on the southbound lanes of I-95 in Stafford County at around 2:39 p.m. Thursday.

Police say the bus driver pulled over onto the shoulder of the roadway after seeing and smelling smoke coming from the cabin of the bus.

Authorities said the fire was found coming from the baggage compartment below the passenger compartment.

The male victim was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital for treatment. All 28 passengers were able to evacuate the bus and were not injured.

Greyhound said the bus was traveling from New York to Richmond.

Virginia State Police are investigating the incident and how the person got into the luggage compartment.
