BETHESDA, Md. - A pedestrian was struck and killed on the northbound lanes of Interstate 270 at the spur in Bethesda, authorities say.
Fire officials say the pedestrian was struck on Tuesday around 9:30 p.m. while attempting to cross the roadway. The victim was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died. Witnesses told police that it appeared the person ran into the roadway to retrieve an object when they were struck.
The northbound lanes were shut down for the accident. Drivers were advised to avoid the area as significant delays took place.
