Annapolis stabbing suspect struck, killed by a tractor-trailer in Prince George’s County

Authorities say a man who was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer along a busy Prince George's County highway Monday afternoon was considered a suspect in a stabbing that happened earlier that day in Annapolis.

Maryland State Police say 42-year-old Maurice Logan Mitchell walked into traffic and was struck by a tractor-trailer around 4:15 p.m. on Route 50 near Route 193 in the Bowie area. He was transported by ambulance to University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the tractor-trailer remained at the scene.

Investigators discovered that Mitchell was considered a suspect in a stabbing of a pregnant woman that happened earlier in the day Annapolis. They say the stabbing happened in the 700 block of Newtowne Drive. 

Shaniqua Mitchell, 32, of Annapolis told police the attacker was her husband Maurice Logan Mitchell. Ms. Mitchess is still hospitalized and is in serious, but stable condition according to police. 

A woman was found at the location with multiple stab wounds. She was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma where she remains in critical but stable condition.

Annapolis Police are continuing to investigate the stabbing. Maryland State Police are investigating the crash. Route 50 was partially closed for about four hours following the crash.
