Park Police: Rope found at MLK Memorial in DC
WASHINGTON - U.S. Park Police are investigating after a rope was found near the MLK Memorial in downtown DC on Friday afternoon.
A Park Police spokesperson said the rope was discovered around 2 pm. It was found on a bench in the memorial, and the woman who found it turned it in to the bookstore. They say the woman who found it may have been part of a tour group.
The statement released by Park Police did not indicate that the rope was in the shape of a noose.
Anyone with information about the rope or the woman who found it is asked to call United States Park Police at 202 610-8737.
Two days earlier, on Wednesday, a noose was found inside the segregation exhibit at DC's Smithsonian African American Museum of History and Culture. Last Friday, a noose was found hanging from a tree near the Hirshhorn Museum.
