Official: No evidence of shots fired at Va. military base

JOINT BASE LANGLEY-EUSTIS, Va. (AP) -- A military official says a Virginia base was locked down after contractors working on a roof thought they heard gunshots and called 911.

The Daily Press of Newport News reports (http://bit.ly/1PLUFWu ) that Col. William Galbraith told reporters that security forces investigated the report at Joint Base Langley-Eustis and did not find any indication of a shooting. He said the cause of the noise had not been determined.

The incident occurred about 11:30 a.m. Friday near the Soldier and Family Readiness Center. The lockdown lasted about an hour.

Langley Air Force Base in Hampton and Fort Eustis in Newport News merged in 2010. They are separated by 17 miles.
