Music industry legend Mathew Knowles knows how to make it in the business

WASHINGTON - Mathew Knowles is a driving force in the music industry. Father of superstars Beyonce and Solange Knowles, he also managed the legendary Destiny's Child.

He sat down to talk to us about ways to make it in the music industry and about his thoughts on FOX 's Empire.

In his book, 'The DNA of Achievers: 10 Traits of Highly Successful Professionals,' Knowles motivates, inspires, and focuses on characteristics that are common among successful people from all walks of life.

"It starts with passion," he told us when he joined us in The Loft. "I tell everyone if you live your passion, you never work a day in your life. Do what you are passionate about. Not a job. Not what you're determined to do. But what you're passionate a about."

Knowles told us he is a huge Empire fan. He loves the show and says it reminds him of something personal to him.

"The writer, the creator of this idea, she's actually from Houston," he said. He told FOX 5 he likes to think of FOX 's Empire as a combination of his record label, Music World Entertainment, and another Houston label. But he's no Lucious Lyon!
