MTA police officer injured by suspected impaired driver during hit-and-run while on traffic stop
BELTSVILLE, Md. - A Maryland Transportation Authority police officer is recovering after being struck by a suspected drunk driver while on a traffic stop.
The incident happened around 11 p.m. Tuesday on northbound Interstate 95 at Rt. 200 in Beltsville, Maryland.
A Maryland State Police trooper was responding to a vehicle collision at the scene when an MTA officer arrived to assist. Officials say the officers were pulled off in a construction zone away from the flow of traffic.
Authorities say the MTA officer was sitting in their patrol car when a Chevy Cruise collided with the driver's side of the vehicle. The driver fled the scene but was located a short time later.
The driver of the striking vehicle, identified as 43-year-old Carol Reed, 43 of Columbia, Maryland was arrested and faces charges of suspected impaired driving.
The condition of the MTA officer is unknown at this time.
