Motorcyclist dies from injuries after colliding with horse

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) -- Authorities say a man is dead and his wife injured after the motorcycle they were on collided with a horse and rider in New Mexico.

The Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office says Steven Mudge was thrown from the motorcycle when it hit the horse Sunday evening on a road south of Santa Fe. He was badly hurt and died early Monday.

Office say Mudge was 65 years old, but an online posting by relatives says he was 61.

His wife, 56-year-old Nancy Mudge, was hospitalized for treatment of her injuries. The man riding the horse was treated at the scene.

The horse ran off, but the rider was able to find it and call a veterinarian to examine the animal. It was unclear if the horse was hurt.
